I've been short since late last week, using my timing model, it follows smart money... you're right about the Chinese market, it probably had a lot to do with the timing of the sell off, and Greenspan also made a negative comment the other day... but, I think it all came together and it was time to sell...

"GDP reported soft"

I'm betting that the 2006 4th. Q preliminary reported GDP number (was '3.5%') will likely be revised down to perhaps 2.0%... but the latest info, manufacturing and consumer spending from January, most likely came in lower then predictions simply because of the sudden onset of bad weather all over the place.

True, housing continues it's decline (but I regard that as 'expected info'), however I don't see evidence yet for any systemic slowing in GDP beyond what the true numbers for 4th. Q. likely are.

(Still... ain't '2%' slow enough?)
