"I looked and didn't see 66% in SPECint_2006 or 32% in SPECfp_2006."

I think you need to look better. First, there is no point to compare "comparable" platforms, all customers see only the best achievable results. Second, the comparable load usually is SPECbase, not peak, because it resembles practical performance more closely. And 20% alleged difference in TDP is the least to worry about. And mentioning the 7% clockrate difference is the last straw.

Therefore, for SPECint2006:
spec.org
- 18.5 base
spec.org
- 11.9 base -> 55%

For FP, the best at the date results are:
spec.org
- 17.1 for Xeon, and
spec.org
- 12.7 for AMD -> 35%

"A 40% IPC increase and Woodcrest is well behind."
Well, anyone has a freedom to dream and stretch reality beyond any limit. Comforting yourself with wild excuses is not productive.

Good luck,

- Ali

If we remove your obviously artificial restrictions about which
operating systems, compilers and stock frequencies can be used
for comparison (which strangely enough are not any part of the
official SPEC criteria) it becomes painfully clear why you have
selected that criteria, since a much different picture emerges.

SPECint_base2006:
Your selected 3 GHz Opteron: 11.9
2.93 GHz Core2 on Windows XP: 18.5 [1]

Core2/Opteron int score Ratio: 1.55

SPECfp_base2006:
Your selected 3 GHz Opteron: 12.7
3.0 GHz Core2 on Windows XP: 17.1

Core2/Opteron fp score Ratio: 1.35

Notes:
1. spec.org
2. spec.org
