No, the truly funny thing is to see how misinformed rightists start to shake and sputter when you point out the real reasons for the demise of the Soviet Union: perestroika (the fuel), glasnost (the oxygen), and bluejeans (the spark). Reagan was like any other spectator of the grand collapse...

Read up on some history and maybe the clouds in front of your eyes will lift.

Reagan was successful mainly on charisma. He was a strong personal symbol, an actor who played the president with real verve, and he had a sense of humor plus a liberal wife who kept him in check. Like a more rightwing version of Schwartzeneggar. The GOP could be proud of Reagan, but his policies were often pretty heinous. Iran-Contra? S+L Debacle? Scrapping carter's clean fuels programs? Arming Saddam and Iran, etc.

Reagan jump-started the economy but left us with huge debts, though nowhere near as huge as Bush's, plus his administration was very corrupt (lots of criminal indictments), and the last two years of his last term he had Alzheimers and wasn't even running things. Reagan was a much better leader than Bush or Nixon, just a better person basically, but we will would have been better off without his rightwing corporate cronyism, Iran-Contra schemes and huge wasteful military spending programs. MX and Star Wars were huge wastes of money.

Also, there is the little matter of his people bribing the Iranians to hold onto the hostages until after the election. In other words, Reagan cheated to get into power. And I will always be suspicious about why so many Sea Stallion helicopters went down at the same time on Carter's hostage rescue mission. I don't trust Ollie North types. They have proven they will do anything to forward their goals.
