Re Obama:

I believe he's still talking health INSURANCE which isn't the same thing as healthcare. Someone with only catastrophic insurance or only partial insurance due to pre-existing conditions isn't really covered but would be counted as covered.

I want someone to talk about eliminating the age restriction on Medicare, covering everyone and banning private health insurance companies. I'll tell ya, for a capitalist country, we're awfully monopolistic about health insurance.

Companies like WalMart and Starbucks and GM would welcome the decoupling of healthcare with employment. In particular, Howard Shultz of Starbucks is very concerned that his full-coverage model is headed for a collision with health care costs which are rising at 3-4X the rate of inflation.

Healthcare has gone insane in the USA. It's twice as expensive but of lower quality than that of other industrialized nations. US healthcare IMO is a disgrace. The medical profession, for the most part, is only interested in money. I predict more and more Americans will die from lack of money and nothing else.

Is this the kind of country we are now? If so, why are we worth defending?

We've gone off into the dark and someone needs to turn the light on.
