They (al Qaeda) are well entrenched with a number of the Sunni tribes in Iraq, because the Sunnis are using them as 'shock troops' in their unequal battle with the majority Shiites. But, not before. (Of course, before the war the only significant State level support that al Qaeda had at it's disposal was from SAUDI ARABIA, PAKISTAN, AFGHANISTAN, YEMEN, SUDAN... and perhaps some of the other Gulf Sunni Monarchies. NOW, it has expanded on that list.)
