Remember the museum looting and rummys comments about blowing off steam?

Michael, most of the looting was done by Baathists on their way out, before the American troops got there. More troops could not have prevented it. That said, Rummy should have said, we impose martial law, but it would have involved shooting looters. We wanted to be nice liberators, not shoot civilians who were only raiding Baathist palaces. Just imagine for one second how the BBC would have reported THAT!

No easy answers. Most of the reporters were so against the war that anything less than perfection was reported as disaster from day one, and I do mean day one. I listened to BBC reporting on the radio as American troops went in. They were gearing themselves up for full quagmire/disaster mode when Baghdad fell. You never heard anyone have to backpedal so fast.

I think the Iraqis know that they have the remainder of Bush's term, no more. I am seeing some hopeful signs that the government Iraq is starting to be a government - such as the oil deal just signed. As for electing a democrat, a skedadle now will create a disaster and will elect a Democrat, so little to lose on that front, imo. TWT
