No it isn't. It just consumes somewhat less gas, but not as much as people believe. Look at the Honda Accord Sedan, then look at its hybrid version. EPA MPG goes from 24/34 to 28/35. Not very impressive. Well, again, so what? The important issue is not the characterization or perception of hybrids, but the role that they have long term....since hybrid introduction research into better battery technology has been stepped up, plug ins are being developed, full time electrics, alternatives explored, etc...the bigger picture is WAY more important.
