I wasn't paying attention then. But I think we all know the difference this time.

Back then, AMD had (by no effort of its own) the time to improve the product. Intel went the wrong way, thinking that the netburst design could be extended. That was a wrong decision that allowed AMD to extend the life of its K8 design to the point where it matured and performance and yield got to world-class status.

It looks like Intel has, by merit or chance, gotten on a path that does not allow AMD time to twiddle and tweak. Not this round, anyway.
