Space is a funny thing in SL. I can live next door to you and never ever see you. You CAN walk down the street (or fly which is much faster) but mostly you teleport directly to the place you want to go since there are so many different worlds.

It sounds as if Edwards HQ is in a "mature, unzoned" neighborhood. There are neighborhoods zoned for general use, that don't allow mature clubs, etc.

Anyway- as I said, I was trying to bring a bit more information to the table on SL to balance the bias that was emerging. Had I not had a son who designs virtual worlds for companies, I never would have joined SL, but it has been lots of fun.

Am off for the weekend to LA to see other son. Have a good one, all.

Not really. The number of 2nd life users is more than the population of Nevada, let alone a strip mall.

Maybe like renting space in a strip mall the size of LA, that also has a massage parlor, and other things that a politician wouldn't like to be associated with.

I recognize that some of these things are close by the area of Edwards' virtual HQ, not just somewhere in the same virtual world, but its easy for someone to quickly move in. I doubt Edwards would set up in a particularly sleazy area, at least not knowingly.

In the physical world there are zoning considerations, permits, and all sorts of other laws that would delay, restrict, or even outright ban some of these things. Its not hard to avoid setting up your office in a red light zone.

In a place like 2nd Life, there isn't that type of legal and regulatory restriction, or physical delays to set up a building.

I wonder if at some point there might not be "towns" in 2nd Life that control an area to keep out "undesirables", while other areas would retain the lack of controls. My understanding is if you own the area you can control it, I suppose like minded people could have some form of collective ownership of an area, or could buy their property in one area and agree by contract to forbid certain things.

Edit - Don't get me wrong. I don't like Edwards, but I think his politics and his activities as a lawyer are the real reason not to like him.

Edit - From later posts I see that there is some sort of zoning in 2nd Life. I think Edwards (or more likely some employee of Edwards campaign) should have been more careful with site selection.
