Ray; I agree with everything you say, but the stocks I am involved with are not used in determining any index, and if I use analysis to determine their own relative strength, I believe they can march to their own drummer. I believe the time frames should be kept shorter and percentage returns reduced. After watching a basket of stocks, you get a feel for those that will always have a little more positive bias, and those that cannot even hold their gains for one day.
I am not good at shorting, or I would have set some up on Monday last.
