We do have to consider ourselves lucky in that regard. I can't help but remember the power outage that left us without for 5 days. We were prepared for that. I would bet those folks going through the blizzards are pretty well prepared also. I remember hubby's Dad (grew up in Backoo ND) telling us stories about having to shovel out the front door of the house through 10'-12' drifts and being snow bound for weeks at a time back in the '20s and '30s when he was a kid.

Those folks from the midWest-midEast are some pretty darned tough folks.

It is the tornadoes and earthquakes that are the toughest to prepare for. So much damage and not much to do for it but ride it out and pray.
