In Britain, in the middle ages, the husbandry books discussed the advantages of switching to leaving 1/3 of the land fallow every year instead of 1/2. This resulted in better harvests.

People weren't as dumb as you think they were. Except for the "Noble Savages" that most Environmentalists love. The core environmental crowd would like to see us go back to a "Hunter/Gatherer" time. Those peoples idea of farming was to burn down a patch of grassland or forest for it. Their idea of sanitation was, "place stink, time to move."

Scratch one of you people, and a lover of Rousseau usually shows through.
