I feel the real money is made over a much longer period of time. Over 5-15 years, momentum plays won't make us money consistently unless you are so timely as to catch every hot play that sprout from nowhere.

That sounds good. It sounds like what Warren Buffett preaches. However something tells me there has to be a little more to it.

In this case, it will take a long time to reverse course if you make the wrong investments or it just turns out wrong for reasons outside of your control.

If you look at Warren Buffett, he certainly has a diversified portfolio. There are lots of stuff that is mundane (eg Dairy Queen, Sees Chocolates, etc), but is that where he made his money.

Buffett has been successful and there is no doubt about it. There has to be something that accounts for that, but I wonder if even he knows the real secret of his success.
