The 380 was a big gamble. Personally, I think they missed the market trends. The hub and spoke approach that the airlines have been using is now the old way. It looks like airlines are going back to point to point, and that further reduces the market for the 380.

Boeing, however, made a different choice. They reduced the fuel consumption by 20% and brought the cost per passenger mile to about the same as the 380. Given the lower pressure on airport infrastructure and their greater flexibility, I think it will do much better than the 380. Sucks about the WiFi, though.
