If you had the same sort of chart for the Nasdaq 2000 peak overlaid with the DJIA in 1929, it might be very interesting. The DJIA in the 1920s contained most of the hot stocks of the era, much like the Nasdaq (but unlike the DJIA) in the late 1990s.


True, and that's also one of those charts where scaling and selection of date range makes a big difference, as shown in the following one.



One other difference between the two periods that is not reflected is the real inflation rate.
