Siloxanes are also used in the semiconductor business. By passing siloxane coated surfaces though a furnace, an insulator layer of silicon dioxide remains as part of the integrated circuit manufacture.

Looks like someone managed to replicate this process on the oxygen sensors in the exhaust gases of petrol engines -g-
