I thought that was an interesting quote, to be sure... I don't think we yet know what "the issues" will be for 2008 (beyond Iraq - the thousand pound gorilla). Will social issues be critical factors? Or the economy? It will be fascinating to see what actually resonate with voters. Right now, Rudy is seen as strong on National Security and "straight talk". If we have any kind of domestic terror event, he could benefit. Edwards is still playing the "two Americas" card....if the economy weakens, that could help him.
