Christ preached that the poor would always be with us. And that people of means would be doing God's work if they share with the poor. There's never any suggestion in any of his many statements on caring for the poor that we should all take a vow of poverty.
Yes, not being poor but modest.

Poor is a relative term. In saying that they would always be with us, Jesus sounds like a rightwing capitalist.
