"The scriptures are one thing. What people do with them is often breathtakingly absurd. :<)"

You might even say people often seem to do that which is diametrically opposed to Christ's message while they claim to be acting in his name. That can make for a living theatre of the absurd.

No, I'm not saying that bad things do not happen. I am saying that it is NOT a statement of fact that the poor will always be with us.

I'm saying that this statement means that human beings will never develop beyond this uncivilized state of affairs in which case God will be very disappointed. It's obvious that religion is often corrupt and corrupted which is why we should demand that it actually make sense.

Bad things happen but, in the past, if you were born at the bottom end of the bell curve you were probably toast. These days, we take care of those people or at least try to so that the 'poor' are not as poor as they used to be. In this, we are doing much better than the 'natural' world which weeds out its afflicted by killing them.

We don't kill our poor or disabled for the most part which is a vast improvement over what our ancestors did. We take care of the weakest members of society which is 180 degrees opposite of what would occur naturally. This is a good thing.

It's absurd to say that what we have today is all we can have....ever. If that's the case then there's no point in having a human species because life then becomes simply a biding of time until death. What the blooming heck is the point of that?

The unexamined life is still not worth living.
