You're right, Germany was more careful with their u-boats early in WWII - they didn't want a repeat of WWI and provide reason for the US to enter the war. Mistakes were made, but u-boats were told to identify their targets and avoid American ships. Witness the near sinking of the SS Washington in 1940.

I did a paper in high school that theorized FDR deliberately allowed Pearl Harbor. I didn't find much hard evidence to support that theory. However, now that Gore has given us the internet, there is plenty of material to support this theory, as well as how JFK was assassinated by forty seven hidden gunmen and how Clinton killed OJ's wife... ;)

Sinking freighters IS an attack. The Spanish-American war was started on a ship supposdly being sunk too, though that was BS just like the Gulf Of Tonkin and Bush's Iraqi WMD and Al Qaida claims.

Also, let's cut the comparisons between Hitler and whatever Shias or Sunnis we're at odds with. They are very different situations. And Bush is no FDR either.
