Wow, I like everything you just said in this post. Racing with prosthetic legs is a wonderful analogy. The structure of Christianity as it is practiced in our western culture does not, as you point out, lend itself to having a direct experience of God. We experience God thru intermediaries for the most part....our pastor, our priest, etc. The scriptures themselves structure our perception of God's nature. Personally, I view this as a failing.
