The USA sent far more help to AQ in Afghanistan than any other country on the planet. That is completely absurd. At the time the US was funding the Afghan mujaheedin, AQ had not even been formed yet. It would be more accurate to say that the Saudis, OBL among them, were co-funders of the same fighters. This like, "the US was the biggest funder of Saddam's weapons" (not even close - Russia, Germany and France were far bigger) is another thing the Left has promoted into Official Truth, despite available evidence. Saddam was not fighting AQ anywhere, he was trying to coopt them. Ever heard the saying, "my enemy's enemy is my friend"?
