I actually believe that has been done and continues to be done. That is not what this thread is about but I notice you get out some, so you may be catching some of it. Things are improving but there is a long way to go. Cultures are clashing, blending, and melding. There is a great deal of confusion about how diverse people with upbringings that are based on incompatible dogma can come together and live in peaceful coexistence. Whether people are affluent enough to explain it or not, simply put doesn't matter, it is happening here in America, and pretty much everywhere to some extent or another. When coworkers realize they have common interests, whether it's playing soccer or view on principle it happens, more and more every day. Some people are afraid, understandably, and some (extremists) have an insatiable appetite to insist things be settled in a perfect way on their terms, usually by someone else changing, they are helpless ... uhhh we live in a temporal state of the universe, live with it, and adapt or be left behind.
