Is anybody here familiar with the mechanics of secondary stock offerings?

I imagine the investment bank that wins the AMD deal will be shorting the stock over time until the capital raising goal is reached. Then, upon the shareholders approval, AMD will issue the shares to cover the short position.

Will such scheme run afoul of the existing SEC rules against naked shorting?

I think JMP is too small to do the size of deal that needs to be done. They need one or a couple of the big firms.

jav,

JMP upgrade is so absurd that it wouldn’t surprise me if JMP got the AMD secondary offering deal.

Maybe you are thinking JPM.
