Carter was a very UNLUCKY president. There was nothing he could have done to prop up the Shah, keep OPEC from blackmailing us, and he tried to rescue the hostages in a very daring rescue raid. They ran into a sandstorm. Or maybe they were sabotaged by Ollie North types. Whatever. if the resuce mission had worked he'd have been a hero and probably re-elected.

Carter was also president at a very difficult time after Vietnam, inflation was sky-high, and OPEC and Iran were just about to explode.

What would you have suggested he do in the Middle East that he didn't do? Invade Iran? If so, then why didn't Reagan? Reagan actually armed Iran. And Iraq.
