The question remains, what is so special about Israel that should require such exalted level in US foreign policy?


What is so special about Israel that so many people have convinced themselves that its conflict with its neighbors is somehow the only important conflict going on in a region of 400 million people? and the linchpin to making any change or progress whatsoever in that region?

That is the more interesting question by far.
