Fine, but what war are you talking about? The Afghanistan and Iraq wars are both over in my view - we won, the Taliban and then Saddam lost. Plenty of the Gitmo detainees have been released, so were they part of a different war than the ones that are still held captive?

In case you hadn't noticed, the Taliban are still fighting us in Afghanistan. Also, the AUMF passed by Congress in October 2001 authorizes war against Al Qaeda. In case you hadn't noticed, AQ is still fighting us worldwide. The war isn't confined to Afghanistan and Iraq, it is a global war against a non-state actor, its allies, and any state that is found to support them. That is the scope of the war powers authority.
