I don't believe that we (any humans, really) react too quickly to long range threats. My guess is that the U.S. will fumble for decades as folks debate whether fossil fuel is really impacting on hurricane formation.

LA coast was a known disaster, awaiting only the right storm, and nothing was done for them. They were a discrete, relatively straightforward cure...better dams, don't mess with the wetlands, etc.

This is not a good time in climatologic terms to retire to FL or those coasts, I suspect.
