It has worked very well in the past, and it could continue to work. Polyandry...more problematic, I think, but I'm not against it.

One thing worth noting is that polygamous cultures tend more towards subsistence than advanced technologically. There is also the very significant issue of what to do with the men who can't find wives.

PS. I lived in rural Rhodesia many years ago, and polygamy was very common for native people. Just returned from visiting, which was most enjoyable.
