(Pink Sheets:WTAF - News) has announced that it is sponsoring the Flashline Mars Arctic Research Station (FMARS) 2007 mission, an unprecedented four-month simulated Mars mission taking place on Devon Island in the high Canadian Arctic. Wataire Industries has provided two W11-4010 atmospheric water generators that will supply the daily drinking water needs for the 7-member scientific team. Commencing May 10, and running through the end of August, the 7-person FMARS 2007 crew will conduct a sustained program of geology and microbiology field exploration at Devon Island while operating under many of the same constraints as a group of astronauts would during an expedition to Mars. By doing so, they will be able to test various field exploration techniques, tactics, and organizational strategies, thereby learning what will work best when humans reach the Red Planet. One of the major environmental factors facing the crew will be the high humidity present within the vessel that will house the crew members. Maintaining a safe drinking water supply will also be a challenge aboard the habitat. The Mars Society expedition will use the atmospheric water generation technology originally developed by Wataire Industries and distributed worldwide by Wataire International. Wataire technology uses humidity in the atmosphere to produce safe drinking water. Wataire's treatment system solves both environmental concerns since the machine will reduce the amount of humidity within the capsule and, in so doing, will also produce a daily supply of safe drinking water for the astronauts. Wataire President Max Weissengruber stated that "Wataire Industries is proud to be associated with such a major international scientific venture and will gain valuable technical information and know-how as a result of its participation and performance in this ground-breaking scientific mission." Wataire Industries Inc. is an industry-leading Canadian research and development company and a manufacturer of atmospheric water generation products that can provide safe drinking water ranging from 17 liters up to 5,000 liters per day. The Mars Society (www.marssociety.org) is a private international grassroots organization dedicated to furthering the case for human exploration of Mars. Since its founding in 1998, the Mars Society's strong commitment to both outreach and research has placed it in the forefront of Mars exploration proponents. With over 7,000 members in 40 countries, the organization currently operates multiple world-class research facilities investigating many technical and human factors associated with human exploration of space.
