That's exactly what we don't know.

Just wonder what caused the previous GWs, because we do know now that they were not preceded by CO2 increases, right?

Because we now know that the CO2 tracked the previous GWs by hundreds of years, that the CO2 increases back then were most likely even caused by increases in the world temperatures predating the CO2 increases by hundreds of years.
And not the other way around.

Something is rotten in the theory state of global warming.
