Lighting fires is great fun and should be part of normal human life. We have evolved over eons with fire as part and parcel of our way of life. That's why cigarettes are so popular. People instinctively feel safe and good having a little fire and smell of smoke.

You don't see that point, but the separation of people from their natural state is the driving force for cigarettes. The nicotine is just another aspect. Same with the social aspects, skiving off from work down on the street, and other benefits.

There should be little fires everywhere. But gas isn't good enough. It needs to be wood, with a flame.

That's also why eternal flames are so popular.
