I don't know why I surprised you, I believe that there is often a middle path. In the Case of Islam, I believe that we have allowed Islam to become mired in a lie. We have ignored their history, and we have ignored how it must feel to be so far behind. Islam was directly involved in the Holocaust, and the hatred of Jews stems from that period of Islamic History.
Frankly the coming of the Jews could have, and should have led to a period of considerable growth and financial prosperity in the entire region.
If there is ever peace for 3 or 4 years in succession, and both sides spend their money on their countries no on their armies, the rest of the world will be hard pressed to keep up to the combined forces of Israel and Palestine.

The one problem that I can see is that a wealthy lebanon, and a wealthy Palestine would make the rest of the Arab nations and Iran look old, poorly managed, and overly controlling. So I suspect that it won't happen in my lifetime, but perhaps in 50 years or so.
