Rule #1, keep it low key, by promoting it you attract the state tax man. States should follow the feds by allowing personal production and use of 400 gallons per calendar quarter per person tax exempt. Another legal loophole is to blend small amounts of diesel with veg oil or bio diesel thus classifying your home brew fuel as a fuel additive not subject to road tax. On a side note I just did a 2800 mile trip on veg oil with no fuel stops pulling a 5000# trailer 1400 miles.
