In government circles, where it COUNTS, Israel is still very much a sacred cow, for both the Reps and the Dems. They ALL worship AIPAC. There IS some encouraging kickback lately though, from the left and a little from the press. Invading Lebanon was stupid of Israel. What Israel does to the Pals is a crime. Supporting Israel is not in our national interest.

To which I say: hogwash. Anti-Zionism is practically a litmus test to work in the left these days, you telling me nobody can seriously criticize Israeli intelligence or AIPAC? After Harvard published Walt and Mearshimer's POS excuse for a paper? Excellent. You might note that the CIA, NSA, FBI, Justice Department, etc are not run by the left. When investigations magically are stopped, and the public is given no news, that is the sort of problem I'm talking about. I could care less what some hippy prof in Beserkly babbles nonsense about. He is not in charge of much. Regarding Walt & Mearshimer, please see your own response. No different than the PC chatter regarding Summers & Harvard. The point is, PC causes problems. Not just on one side either. Brzezinsky and Carter, have they been stifled and declared bigots? How many well respected Jewish scholars said that we should at least carefully examine the issue? Don't confuse criticism with PC stifling, the huge preponderance of which happens in the same direction as the inclination of our media elites, which is towards the left. A left which used to be pro-Zionist, but is now anti-Zionist. I cannot count the times and ways I have read or been told that the US should jetison Israel, the alliance is not in our national interest. And now you're trying to convince me that Israel is a sacred cow. No dice. Don't confuse leftwing Academics & media for government agencies with authority to pursue investigations, without being shutdown. You seem unable to comprehend the difference.

As I pointed out before, the problem we have now is that leftwing media IS slowly building momentum AGAINST Israel, while absolute stonewalling on rational discussion is the response form the rightwing, especially security fields. This is not a good dynamic situation IMO.
