The old Soviet Union was an oligarchial dictatorship.....it has nothing to do with socialism vs capitalism It was a dictatorship, but it had a socialist economic model. In theory, not in practice. Its very relevant because it provides an example of "what happens when you want to make the government the prime controller of resources rather then allowing people the freedom to make their own economic decisions." Its an example of a dictatorship and why that can be negative on a lot of different levels. "Dictatorship" doesn't equal "non-socialist" Of course, but in this case it does. Do you know the difference between an oligarchal dictorship and a left wing dictatorship?
