They bought the wrong military operational concept

What is the correct military operational concept? Any links or original thoughts would be appreciated.

Petreaus seems to have given it a lot of thought. Are there any manuals you have read that are comparable?

Is a statement propaganda if it is true?

If its purpose in being there is to prop up the lies that come before and come after, then truth can also serve as propaganda. The best propaganda after all, needs a large admixture of truth to be the more convincing.

There is a very recent article in Foreign Affairs suggesting that the US should simply withdraw into a protected zone, then let the Sunnis, Baathists, AQ, and Shias sort themselves out. They have too many deadly differences, especially after Karbala, that they need to resolve.

We would prove materiel to the Iraqi government under this concept, but no other assistance.

I haven't read the article too carefully but plan to do so soon. It appeared to make sense on first impression, but I have not picked it apart after the first reading.

unclewest, do you think it is possible that there is a possible disinformation campaign on? Are we sending in , SF, Spec Ops and other groups that can in fact, make a difference, and just letting everyone in the world assume we are doing things conventionally?

whose fault, uncle?

the usual line is that there's enough to go around. They had plenty of time between Viet Nam and Iraq. Why can't we fight an insurgency? and it isn't all JAG.
