Grocery items have been climbing for 2-years, mostly due to increases in freight and transportation.

Protein (chicken, pork, beef, etc) should also see significant increases this summer as corn feed price increases filter through the system.

You may not have noticed many standard packaged grocery products have had their sizes reduced. This maintains the price point, but is a de-facto price increase.

Furthermore, many manufacturers increase prices semi-annually, so increases effective in January will be passed on later in the month.

The average family in America has been getting hit from all sides. The tightening of credit will be the path to slower consumer spending.
