I became persuaded again that there are looming issues here and that a great deal of the opposition to recognizing them is brought on by our lobbyists who do everything they can to discredit any factual information.

Oddly enough, I think there is another underlying issue in the USA. We are a very religious nation, and weather is still the domain of God. Heck, the weatherman can't even predict the weather a couple of days out. If you look, you will see statements that essentially say: "Man shouldn't be so arrogant as to think we can change the weather". A lot of the resistance from certain quarters comes down to this, that it MUST not be human induced. Now if a carbon comet hit the earth, or volcanos placed the CO2 in the atmosphere, these same people would have no problem with the elevated CO2 being linked to subsequent warming. But God, not from people!
