That seems like a healthy perspective katy. If we can put our support behind scientific endeavor that is not politicized, we can do lots of good, if that same energy is blocked or corrupted by politicalization, we're in deep doo doo.

Did you ever hear about the bird that lived on bull shit.

Little Birdy 30/5/97

One cold winter in a field, a little bird fell out of his nest and bounced off the branches, landing on the ground.
A week passed and the little bird was still on the ground, cold, wings torn and near to death.
A bull that was in the field saw the bird and came over,"What's with you" the bull asked.
"Don't hurt me" the little bird cried.
"Am not going to" the bull said "I want to help"
"What can you do" cried the little bird.
The bull went on "Follow behind me, and each time I do a cow pat, jump in it, It'll keep you warm and it contains all the nutrition you'll need.
A week later the bird is still jumping in to the cow pats behind the bull.
He jumps up and tries to flap his wings for the first time.
"I can fly, I can Fly" the little bird shouts. The little bird fly higher and higher shouting all the time "I can fly, I can Fly".
At that point a Farmer hears the little bird shouting and fires his shotgun at the bird, the bird hits the ground.

The moral of the story is "If you get to the top on Bull Shit, don't stand around shouting about it, because someone will always shoot you down"

China will quickly surpass us in terms of damage to air quality. I resent that this administration squandered the opportunity to take the environmental lead.....

Sure it will. But the "environmental lead" came pre-defined as the Kyoto Treaty, which would be if implemented (nobody has implemented it, not even the signatories) a hugely expensive crash course in reducing carbon emissions that would send the developed world into recession, while letting China and India off the hook entirely.

One strong undercurrent of motivation among the enviro-left is to cripple the strongest capitalist countries. Socialism couldn't do it, so they are onto environmentalism.

I'm all for reducing polution too, but CO2 is not polution in any traditional sense. It's only 0.03% of the atmosphere, and is perfectly natural. You and I breathe some out every day.

The only reason to worry about CO2 is if you buy into the greenhouse gas theory, and even then, CO2 is only a small part of the story, since the main greenhouse gas is water vapor, which nobody proposes doing anything about.
