been there done that. Hired a guy one time for customer service on phones to take orders, track orders , inquiries. etc. he spoke five languages. comes into me after four months says he doesn't want to work from 6pm till 9pm any longer wants to rotate with other customer service representatives. i told him I hired him specifically to work the shift he was working. i made it clear this position was not a rotating position, it was a nightmare for managers to schedule as no one wanted those hours. so i hired the next time i had an opening for specific hours and made it understood that these are the hours of the job.

so i told him he works those hours or he quits. he went to employee relations who came back to me to try to work something out. nice folks i suggested they volunteer for the shift hours as no one else wants them and i have eight other workers who are very happy now. If i go back to rotate shifts i have eight or nine unhappy workers, and perhaps turnover. they told the young man ,, sorry. you were hired to do what it says in the job description. if you do not want to do those assigned duties you will have to quit. Oh, they also ran it by the lawyers.
