Egyptian security forces detained 10 members of the banned Muslim Brotherhood on Thursday, an official told AFP.

The arrests, in the Nile Delta governorate of Sharqiya, were on charges of "belonging to an illegal organisation and for possessing documents describing the ideology of a banned group," the official said. The arrested men included several doctors, teachers and an engineer.

On Monday, authorities arrested 18 members of the Brotherhood, including one of the movement's senior members, Mahmud Ghozlan. The official said none of those arrested on Thursday were among the leadership.

"It is all because of the constitutional amendments," a Brotherhood spokesman said, according to Reuters. "It is to put pressure on the Brotherhood."
