But even if it weren't, they're our leaders! I'd rather they have nice compensation packages... it makes them harder to buy off. Plus, it might attract some of the best and brightest.

I'm watching the Mavs/Suns game right now, and every player on the court (or even the bench) makes more than every member of Congress, and most make considerably more than the President! Doesn't seem right.

According to the Congressional Research Service, 413 retired Members of Congress were receiving federal pensions based fully or in part on their congressional service as of Oct. 1, 2006. Of this number, 290 had retired under CSRS and were receiving an average annual pension of $60,972
