Evidence from studies of sunspot activity show that cycles of more intense activity correlate to higher temperatures, and that the sun is in an unusually active phase right now. Moreover, the activity links up with temperature on a decadal basis, so the theory doesn't have problems to explain the mid 20th cen. cooling cycle. Cf. Nir Shaviv's work.
