"Allahu Akhbar" literally translates to "God is greater". When faced with a surprising or awe striking event, it is often uttered by ALL Muslims as a reminder so as not to lose oneself. The Jihadist use it in exactly the same way as everyone else; they are faced with an awe striking enemy and use the phrase to remind themselves there are greater powers in the world.

I believe "Allahu Akhbar" means "God is greatest"

I believe it means "God is great". there have been other posts implying "greater" and "greatest". I do not find it offensive at all. It is said by Muslims 5 times a day during their prayers worldwide. there is always criminals that will use religion as a reason for their crimes.
