Not really insurance either. The idea of insuring against living to an old age doesn't make a lot of sense, and generally what does "insure" against such a thing is retirement savings/programs.

What I meant about how it might be negative in the future was for retirees of any age. Retire in 2040 and live to 100 and the benefits might not represent a positive return on the amount you where taxed (considering the total tax of 15.3% because the "employer's contribution" reduces your wage)
