Katelew, if all that money spent in Iraq was spent on energy efficient utilities and on renewable energy equipment (i.e. wind mill, solar panels and discounts on hybrid vehicles) I think the consumption of oil based energy would have been greatly reduced, without impacting the American lifestyle.

It's really not that hard...
10 silver BBs...replaces 100% of electricity, 50 % of transportation fuels in 15 years. If I have added their numbers correctly, cuts all GHG and 13 mil BPD of oil...(and it doesn't talk about using electric rail instead of long haul diesel trucks, which is 24x more efficient, nor does it talk about energy savings from recycling. Mandatory in about 10 states.)

Conservation? Cal uses half the electricity of the US, but we still have the 5th or 7th largest economy in the world. When Enron screwed us, we conserved so much we had the lowest consumption of any industrial nation in the world. GHG emissions? We're only 12th in the world but we're getting better. It can be done. It can be done easier when the feds aren't in the way. Even easier when they are leading. Greening their (our) 8000 pieces of property and the fleet of 60K cars would sure help.
