Nice evasion! Sorry, no cigar! The industry started growing, the quickly ran into a bottle neck- -a shortage of properly trained workers. Meanwhile, the unemployment rate remained idiotically high because degrees in medieval literature are of little use in engineering or the sciences. And because of the generous social safety net, there was little incentive to go through the long, difficult process of retraining in a technical area. Bought your ticket yet? I'm SURE we'll get along just fine without you.
