We have way too many Americans in jail. It's absurd how many we have, and it's very-very expensive. Obviously, many of them deserve and need to be there, but many others don't.

Prisoners cost society $50,000 a year to incarcerate. It costs about $20,000 to send a young person to college. Which is better for the country, especially if the young person is only guilty of drug use or some other victimless crime?

This is a major problem, and there are far too many special interests pushing for more and more people to go to prison. But what about the really big criminals? The ones who gouge us at the gas pump, pollute our skies, corrupt our politicians, fix drug prices or force us into needless wars for profit? Why are they not in prison? Why is the kid who smokes a joint in prison and the CEO of Halliburton not? Halliburton is guilty of ripping off at least a billion dollars from US taxpayers.

The Bush GOP only cares about law enforcement for its opponents. The fired prosecutor story is huge because the only reason they were fired is that they prosecuted people like Duke Cunningham (an odious crook) or refused to accelerate indictments of democrats right before an election. This is the executive branch trying to politicize the judicial branch and it's the kind of thing done in Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union, not the American democracy.

I am eager to enlighten you more, lady. You are operating from a deep trench of self-delusion, deceit, false myths, smears and prejudices. You need to open up your heart and mind to the truth.

You should also apologize to all our war heros for your unfair smearing of John Kerry, who was truly a hero too. In smearing John, you smear all our war heros.
