Exxon can manipulate profit margins very easily.

Not as easily as you can make up stuff about them.

but when a company makes world-record profits every quarter, only a duped fool or liar would claim they are only making 10% on their money.

Closer to 12% now. In any case your statement is rather illogical. "World-record profits every quarter", doesn't imply high margins. Normal margins, with high revenue can easily do the trick. Exxon-Mobil is a very large company with very large revenue, so it doesn't need incredible margins to make a lot of profit.

Also "world-record profits" is misleading because it doesn't adjust for inflation, or for the generally growing economy. Since dollars become worth less, and because the economy grows, new world records in the economics, business, finance, spending etc. area are common.
